Mr. Matt Curry finished his thesis at SMSU on the “Development and Electrical Characterization of an Ion Implanted Metal/Polymer Mix” in 2001, and since that time has served the Materials Science program in developing the ion implantation process, various deposition techniques, and microlithography processes at SMSU.

His research work involves the synthesis involved in producing carbon based sensor materials and their subsequent treatment with microlithography. He also has experience in the electrical and infrared characterization of these materials, which includes development and operation of the systems used.

He has successfully developed a number microdevices and designed and operates a SMSU microlithography clean room. Microlithography techniques used include spincoating, etching, development, mask alignment, and UV exposure. He has developed, operated, and enhanced the various deposition systems used in microdevice processing. These include RF sputtering, thermal evaporation, and an electroplating system capable of growing thin Au films on SiO2 and silicon. The electroplating system includes a custom designed, temperature controlled plating vessel and the system is computer interface to control the deposition precisely. Mr. Curry has also designed instrumentation including optical, IR, and DC workstations.
