
Dr. Giedd received his Ph.D. in Solid State Physics from the University of Delaware in 1986. He joined the faculty at Missouri State in 1989 after completing a post-doctoral fellow at UOD for collaborative research with The DuPont Company in Wilmington DE.
In 1993 and 94 he received early tenure and the Missouri State Foundation Excellence in Research Award. His accomplishments in materials science combined with a strong interest in innovative graduate programs led him to take a leadership role in the creation of the Materials Science Masters degree program in 1996. In 1998, after serving as the first Materials Science Graduate Coordinator and advisor for its first five graduates, Dr Giedd became Head of the Physics, Astronomy, and Materials Science Department. In 2004, Dr. Giedd stepped down from this position to become the Executive Director for the University’s newly founded Roy Blunt Jordan Valley Innovation Center.
Dr. Giedd has numerous publications in journals, conference proceedings, and contributed chapters, and has also authored five U.S. and international patents. As principal investigator Dr. Giedd has received over $30M in external support from Federal Defense and Science agencies, State Government, and corporations. His proudest achievements remain the continued success of the students he has helped educate.
